Stationary Food Truck
What?
Shackehlicious started like most other food trucks. A motivated Chef took his talents on the road to bring delicious food to the folks of Central Alberta. Chef Jonas started Shackehlicious in 2019 with the goal to cook in the summertime and have more flexibility in the winter months. In that first summer, he attended markets in Red Deer, Lacombe and Sylvan Lake gaining some positive momentum.
As we all know, things changed in early 2020 just as Jonas was set to get out on the road for another season. After a couple of events, Jonas realized that he wasn’t established enough to survive a summer amidst the challenges for restaurants during COVID-19 restrictions and he knew he had to find another solution. Jonas sought the advice of neighbour and friend, Jac, who had the crazy idea of simply parking the truck at the farm and opening from there. After some reflection, Jonas decided it was worth a try.
Shackehlicious then became a stationary food truck located east of Red Deer on Highway 808. The first year was tough, but people loved his food and word spread. Every year, returning guests continue to come out and lots of new people find their way to Shackehlicious. With the positive momentum, Jonas created a covered eating space (that also doubles as a dance floor), a mini-golf course and loads of games for the whole family to enjoy.
Chef Jonas Huber was born in Switzerland and raised on a farm outside of Rimbey, AB. From an early age, he loved being in the kitchen learning from his mother, who’s an excellent cook and a constant source of inspiration. After high school, Jonas returned to Switzerland to complete his apprenticeship and become a Red Seal Chef.
He worked at several restaurants gaining experience from traditional French cuisine to various international cooking styles at Google in Zurich. Chef Jonas traveled back-and-forth to Canada, to several European cities and as far as Sydney, Australia, learning and cooking at every locale. In 2015, he returned to Canada to put down some roots and establish himself here for the long-term. Before he started Shackehlicious, he built a tiny house from scratch, gaining the confidence to take on big projects. It’s been paying off ever since.
Meet Chef Jonas
Since the inception of Shackehlicious, Chef Jonas has evolved the menu from crepes and salads to include well-crafted burgers and shakes. He spends mornings in the garden growing strawberries, lettuce, potatoes and many other fruits, veg and herbs used on the food truck, keeping things fresh and local.
Meet Sommelier Marli
Marli Hadden is a born and raised Albertan who has lived in many places across the province and the country, but grew up here in Red Deer. She didn’t come from a family of wine drinkers, it wasn’t until university when she was working in a recruitment role at an Okanagan winery as a co-op student that she first saw the job description for a Sommelier. She thought that looked like a super cool job to have and decided to start studying wine “casually” as she finished her practical business degree from the University of Lethbridge.
This turned into serving at a Winebar in Calgary, then establishing herself as an up-and-comer in the industry while working at independent wine shop, Metrovino, where she traveled to Germany and France for a wine buying trip. Since then, she’s become WSET Level 3 certified sommelier and traveled to many international wine destinations before landing in Southern Ontario and spending 3 years working at a Niagara winery. It was here Marli learned that she also wanted to grow food and live a farm-to-table lifestyle and started taking steps toward it.
Shortly after returning home to Alberta in 2022, Marli and Jonas met at a mutual friends party. They hit it off right away and soon realized the many opportunities to co-create with their complimentary skills sets.
